3MT IGERT Spring Symposium

"Environmental Science and Environmental Health: Bridging the Gap"

Our 2009 Spring Symposium highlights three speakers from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Denver and one speaker from the Department of Pharmacological Sciences at Stony Brook University. By drawing on the varied disciplines, our symposium hopes to integrate their research expertise to translate environmental science to basic science. Following the talks, the speakers will address and identify (within their expertise) environmental science impacts on health.

Four of our 3MT Trainees will be giving 5-minute presentations based on one slide ("snapshot") that was pivotal to their research. The audience will select the Best Snapshot with ballots at the end of the symposium.

This symposium is sponsored by the Stony Brook 3MT Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training (NSF-IGERT) Program.

The goals were to augment the perception of basic researchers to include an eye towards how their work contributes and is identified in public policy and law. The workshop was sponsored by the Stony Brook 3MT Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training (NSF-IGERT) Program. It was held on May 1, 2008 at the Stony Brook University University Medical Center, Department of Pharmacology Seminar Room, BST 8- 180, Stony Brook University.

Note: Application Deadline March 21, 2008

The IGERT Program in Geographic Information Science at the University at Buffalo invites applications from U.S. doctoral students for support to attend the 2008 Vespucci Summer Institute on Geographic Information Science in Fiesole (near Florence), Italy. This year, funding will be available for either Week 1 (June 9-13) or Week 2 (June 17-20) of the 2008 School. The topic of Week 1 will be "Geo-Sensor Web" and the topic of Week 2 will be "GI Science supporting Virtual Globes". For more information about the 2008 Vespucci program, go to http://www.vespucci.org, click on "Summer Institute", and then explore the information about the program.

We anticipate funding about 6 applicants under this competition.
